(Non)Binaries
edited by Haley Bossé
The Science Fiction and Fantasy community has never been one to stray away from the complexities of the universe. Where many endeavor to sort everything into ever-tighter categories, SFF writers ask, “What else?” “What could be?” “What already exists just outside of our limited perspectives?”
As a non-binary person growing up in a restrictive and highly homogenous community, I turned to Science Fiction and Fantasy to ask my own questions, to expand my understanding, to move toward the ever-shifting horizon. With this call, I asked for the generosity of the SFF community. I asked us all to imagine, to sit with, to envelop ourselves in everything (non)binary. And the community delivered.
Some of the binaries explored in submissions included:-
